Rep. Steve King: GOP Leaders Don't Have Will to Fight Obama

Rep. Steve King says House Speaker John Boehner and incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are being senseless in their embrace of President Barack Obama's government spending bill, which would continue funding the flood of illegal aliens into the country.

"It's not rational," King, an Iowa Republican, said Thursday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"In the Nov. 4th election results … there was a significant increase in the Republican majority in the House of Representatives and a majority in the U.S. Senate.

"You would look at that and think, we have a president, he's run amok and he's trampled over the Constitution and he's run our … debt up to $18 trillion and we will need to restrain him and that means putting [him] into a political straightjacket."

To do that, a continuing resolution that would strip the funding for items the GOP doesn't want is the solution, according to King.

"But that will to do so doesn't seem to be there," said King, a member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security.

He said White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest seemed to be selling the spending bill to Democrats.

"He must forget that Republicans are also listening. One of the things that's in the bill, if I've got my number right, is about $948 million that would be funding Health and Human Services," King said.

"[That would be used to] continue importing illegal aliens, especially juveniles, and distributing them first to the transfer centers where they had staff people and hire subcontractors.

"And then from there to send them, not deport them, but to bring them into the interior of the United Nations and distribute them to all 50 states and … don't even let the state governors know."

King called Obama's use of executive action to allow millions of illegal aliens to receive amnesty "a colossal mess" — but is perplexed that the GOP isn't fighting back.

"It looks like there's a lack of will to call this president to task for his constitutional violations. There's some that want to fight and I give them great credit for that, but we need more than we have right now," he said.

King said the promise by Boehner that the government will not be shut down over the executive action, the equivalent of the president's pledge that there will be "no boots on the ground" in Iraq.

"But we want to win the war. Now why don't you tell me how we're going to do that?" he said.
