Rep. Paul Broun: Obama Rewards Criminals with Work Permits

By    |   Thursday, 04 Dec 2014 03:57 PM

The United States is headed for "economic collapse" following years of mismanagement by both Democrats and Republicans, Rep. Paul Broun says.

"Both political parties have created a government that is totally out of control. Both political parties have created a debt that is unsustainable and spending money that we don't have," Broun, a medical doctor and member of the Tea Party Caucus said Thursday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"We're headed to an economic collapse as a nation … It's absolutely critical that the American people rise up and demand a different kind of governance than we have today. It just has to stop.

"A good example is this juggernaut that [Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid and [House Speaker] John Boehner put together to try to allow an illegal, unconstitutional amnesty program of Barack Obama's."

Broun, a Georgia Republican, has called on Congress to not fund anything that allows the president's plan to grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants to go forward and is perplexed by Boehner's support of a spending bill that would let it.

"It doesn't make any sense … We're going to give work permits to roughly five million illegal aliens here in this country [who] have broken multiple federal laws," Broun said.

"They're criminals. All of them are criminals and we're going to give them the reward of breaking the law by giving them work permits and giving them legal status here.

"What that's going to do is it's going to create more breaking the laws because those who don't qualify under the president's parameters are going to fraudulently claim that they do qualify."

And that is going to lead to more fraud, according to Broun.

"Plus, the government bureaucrats are going to say we'll go ahead and give you the green card even though they're not going to check into it, because we have tried over and over again to try to have verification of legal status and the Democrats have blocked that," he said.

"The administration is certainly not going to put any kind of verification whether the documents are actual or whether they are fraudulent. Plus, it's going to open up a flood of more illegal aliens coming into this country on top of that. Come in, break our laws and we'll reward you by giving you work permits."

Broun has his own plan to help thwart the president's executive actuion.

"What we should be doing is we should be passing a very short-term continuing resolution, and by short-term I'm talking about just the end of January. Two months and that's it," he said.

"In that continued resolution, it stops, limits the federal government and limits the president from going in and implementing his illegal and unconstitutional amnesty program.

"That's what we should be passing instead of this … omnibus bill and I'm saddened by this whole thing. Boehner and Reid have already got the fix in."

He criticized Boehner for "acting as if we lost the election."

"Last time I checked, on Nov. 4, the American people stood up and said we don't want this anymore and gave the reigns to the Republicans and Boehner is acting as if we lost," Broun said.

"Defund the amnesty program and if Reid wants to shut down the government, let him shut it down as he did in October of last year. It was actually Reid that shut the government down."
