Rep. Bob Walker: Climate Change Talk Driven by Politics

By    |   Tuesday, 09 Dec 2014 10:37 AM

Weather is a very complex system and not every change in the climate can be attributed to global warming, according to former Rep. Bob Walker of Pennsylvania, who chaired the House Science Committee.

"We go through periods of dryness and wetness based upon very natural conditions," Walker said Tuesday on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV. "The fact that every time we get some anomaly in the climate, a lot of the proponents of climate change say it doesn't track with the reality of science. It's very important when we are talking about climate to stick with the reality of science, not the political agenda of science."

Walker said he advocates pursuing the science of climate change, but like many Americans and others around the world, he’d like the politics of global warming to cease.

"More and more people are coming to the conclusion that there's a political agenda tied to all of the climate change talk that goes beyond the science," walker said. "I'm all for pursuing the science about climate because it's extremely important that we understand as much as we can about this whole area of climate and what it means.

"There has been a political agenda tied to this and the people and the world are waking up to that. The American people and the people in the world are not quite as dumb as some politicians think they are. Their common sense tells them that there are things in their lives that are extremely more important."

He noted that the U.N. Climate Change Conference taking place in Lima, Peru, concluded that most people are not concerned with climate change.

As technologies develop to better understand climate change, the steep price tag of handling it will begin to decrease, according to Walker.
