Pollsters Sachs, Cyphers: 'Battle-Tested' Jeb Bush Has Mass Appeal

By    |   Tuesday, 07 Jul 2015 08:08 PM

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's 16 percent showing in a new Sachs Media Group poll  shows class and experience rising to the top, pollster Ron Sachs tells Newsmax TV.

"In the case of Jeb Bush, he's been battle tested as the chief executive of a state, and while people may have some niche appeal to certain segments of the electorate, which is why you have so many candidates in the field registering in single or double digits, in the end, to really win you have to go beyond niche appeal," Sachs told "Newsmax Prime" on Tuesday.

"Winning your conference championship is not the same as winning the world title, and Jeb Bush seems to have that crossover appeal that in the end it is likely to help him win the nomination," Sachs said.

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson came in second in the poll at 14 percent, which was the same percentage as GOP voters who are undecided.

On the Democratic side, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is gaining on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Clinton leads with 46 percent, followed by Sanders at 21 percent.

"She's going to have to show respect to this gentleman and actually field a primary campaign," Sachs said. "That's going to be a distraction from the national plan they had to run a general election campaign."

Sachs Media's Karen Cyphers noted that the poll asked not only whom people planned to vote for, but also why they chose that candidate.

Millennials and older voters of the same party gave different reasons for their picks, she said.

"We found that 78 percent of older Republicans care about a candidate's business experience, but less than half of millennial Republicans feel that way," Cyphers said.

"Likewise, only 40 percent of older Democrats care about a candidate being charismatic, whereas 60 percent of millennial Democrats feel that way."

Jeb Bush voters by far have the highest expectations for what they're looking for in a candidate, she said.

"They not only want an educated candidate, they want somebody who has business experience, they want someone's who's compassionate and has a sense of humor," Cyphers said.
