Pete Hoekstra: Obama Stopping Key Surveillance Programs

By    |   Friday, 11 Dec 2015 07:57 PM

The Obama administration continues to dismantle the tools created by the Bush White House that could be used to detect terrorist activity, including those that might have prevented the San Bernardino shootings, former House Intelligence Committee Chairman Pete Hoekstra told Newsmax TV on Friday.

"The tools that were painstakingly put together during the Bush administration have consistently been rolled back by the Obama administration," Hoekstra, who represented Michigan as a Republican from 1993 to 2011, told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth.

"You need to remember where this investigation started.

"This was because the intelligence community, they were looking at this head mosque in Pakistan and also looking at the school where [Tashfeen] Malik went to school, the al-Houda.

"They identified both the school and this parent mosque as being associated with radical jihadists," he added. "And then taking a look at where those tentacles went to.

"They went to a school in Mississauga in Canada. They went to [Syed Farook's] mosque in San Bernardino.

"So what our intelligence and homeland security folks do is what we ask them to do," Hoekstra continued. "They start putting together the dots and saying: boom, radical mosque, radical school, radical school in Mississauga, Canada, this mosque in San Bernardino, affiliated with this radical mosque, man, we ought to be looking at these folks to see the relationship — and it appears that the Obama administration puts a halt on it.

"Could this specific attack have been identified and stopped?" he asked. "Who knows, but if you're not doing the work, you don't even have a chance to stop it."
