Robert Walker: Obama's Ozone Regs Will 'Choke' Jobs

By    |   Wednesday, 26 Nov 2014 09:53 AM

The Obama administration’s recent announcement of stricter ozone regulations is further proof that the White House is more concerned with expanding government and power than they are with creating jobs, former Pennsylvania Rep. Robert Walker said Wednesday on "America’s Forum" on Newsmax TV.

"The fact is these regulations will choke off a large portion of our economy," Walker said. "They will, at the very least, create huge expenses of business to invest in meeting the terms of the regulations and those costs will be at the expense of American jobs."

If the recent climate pact President Obama forged with China goes forward, "we will bind the American government, the American people and the American job situation into getting more restraints before 2025," Walker said. "The point is with the Chinese, they said they wouldn't do anything until 2030. We know in the past they said they would level off their pollution by 2013 and didn't do it. This was a deal only on the Americans not on the Chinese."

The United States, and the world, needs to be taking steps to clean up pollution, according to Walker, but not based on questionable climate change science.

"What the administration is doing here is they're not coming up with a pattern that would allow us to do this in a way that doesn't cost American jobs," he said. "This is an attempt to force their view of climate change on the American people. The science on that is not complete and we shouldn't make investments based upon climate change. What we should be doing is looking at real instances of pollution. We've done an amazing job in this country of cleaning up pollution and even our coal-burning plant have been cleaned up remarkably."

There are a couple of congressional committees looking at the science behind what the Environmental Protection Agency is suggesting, he said.

"The EPA has made these regulations based upon science that they've kept secret. One of the things we need to know is what is the science on which they're basing this? Is it good science or is it science that they've created in order to do their regulating? The most important thing is to make certain that we are using good science in everything we do. They ought to be based upon on the best science that's available."
