Health Policy Experts: Obamacare Doing More Harm Than Good

Wednesday marks the one year anniversary of when the Obamacare healthcare exchanges were opened for business, and two health policy experts say that the new health care law has done more harm than good.

"Obamacare creates more losers than winners," Hadley Heath Manning, health policy director and senior policy analyst at the Independent Women's Forum told Newsmax TV.

"On Oct. 1, 2013, exactly one year ago, a whopping six people enrolled and that was the kickoff for 2014 coverage," Manning told Ed Berliner on "Midpoint" Wednesday.

"This year, coverage enrollment won't start until after the midterm election, which is an admission from the White House that the new rates for 2015, the plans that will be available to people, won't be likeable to the American public," she contends.

"Six-in-10 people, according to a poll from the Independent Women's Voice, report that their personal experience with Obamacare has been negative," she added.

Health policy expert and former New York Lt. Gov. Betsey McCaughey, Republican, told the "MidPoint" host that "Obamacare is hurting twice as many people as it helps."

"It's good for people who lacked insurance, who couldn't afford it and now have coverage," McCaughey explained. "Although, many of them are having trouble actually getting to see a doctor."

However, "many more people are losing their coverage," she said.

Liberal pundits have touted Obamacare as a success, but Manning says that statistics can always be tweaked to make Obamacare "look favorable."

"If you focus on the sheer number of people who have been enrolled in coverage and you ignore the number of people who have their plans canceled, you can make the law look good by pointing out that some people will have a reduction in their premium, if you ignore the fact that many people will have an increase in their premium," she explained.

She said that it's also a great concern that the doctor networks are so narrow in a large majority of the plans available "in the individual market," something that the employer market hasn't felt yet because President Barack Obama has delayed the employer mandate.

"The fact that the implementation deadline of this law has been changed so many times indicates that the White House and their supporters are really struggling to implement the law," she added.
