Former New York City Police head Bernie Kerik castigated the office of Mayor Bill de Blasio for its Twitter snipe about the cost of a bomb scare response at Trump Tower, urging city officials to "grow up" and "do your job."

In an interview Thursday with "Newsmax Prime" host Miranda Khan on Newsmax TV, the former commissioner and author of "From Jailer to Jailed" condemned the exchange over the incident at the home of President-elect Donald Trump as "immature."

"The bottom line is whether it was he's the president-elect in New York City or he's some other town or some other city, the local police, the state police, the federal authorities, they're going to have to work together to secure him his residence, his family," Kerik told Khan. "Grow up already, just do your job, work out the details later."

Kerik also noted, although New York City is on "high alert" ahead of the annual New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square, "the United States of America should be on high alert in every city in every community in this country."

"ISIS or al-Qaida or whatever you want to call them – there's 50 different names of radical Islamic extremists that are out there – they talk about this stuff on a daily basis," he said.

"We need to listen to what they're saying and be prepared for it . . . If we don't know by now, if we don't get it by now, then I'm sorry for you because it's going to happen – or at least they're going to try – and we've got to do everything in our power to prevent that if and when it happens."
