Michael Reagan: Obama 'Looking for a Legacy' in Iran Deal

By    |   Wednesday, 18 Mar 2015 01:38 PM

Conservative commentator Michael Reagan tells Newsmax TV that President Barack Obama is about to make a "terrible mistake" in his nuclear deal with Iran, partly because he is too motivated by his legacy.

"Much of his problem is this: he's looking for a legacy, and when a president is looking for a legacy, that's when they make terrible mistakes," Reagan told J.D. Hayworth and Miranda Khan on "America's Forum" on Wednesday.

"It's a terrible mistake what he's doing with Iran, everybody in the world knows it, but I don't think there's any care coming from the president," he said.

"He wants a deal with Iran, and he doesn't care about the relationship between Israel and the United States," Reagan said. "The deal is going to be a bad deal, and the world is not going to be a better place for it."

It was recently reported that Iran and Hezbollah were removed from the United States' terror list for 2015.

According to Reagan, that's a sign of "the president just giving in to Iran," and it's "why there's no respect for our president."

"Everybody in and around the world knows about Iran and terrorism, everybody around the world knows about [Hezbollah] and terrorism. So, the president ... again just sets himself up to show his weakness," he said.

Assuming the deal does go through, the son of former President Ronald Reagan said that the newly re-elected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has other nations in the Middle East he can turn to to try to break up the deal.

"Not everybody in the Middle East ... is going to be happy with the Iran deal with a nuclear weapon because that's just going to lead to the growth of nuclear weapons throughout that whole region," he said.

"He's going to try to enlist the help of the neighbors in that area. Even though they may be enemies of Israel, they have a common bond [in] not wanting Iran to get a nuclear weapon," Reagan said.

"The whole Middle East is going to be in turmoil if, indeed, Iran gets a nuclear weapon."
