Allen Weh: I'm Fighting Hard to Defeat Udall in NM

By    |   Friday, 31 Oct 2014 12:12 PM

Retired Marine Corps Col. Allen Weh, just days away from the Nov. 4 election, told Newsmax TV's J.D. Hayworth on Friday that he is closing the gap against New Mexico Sen. Tom Udall by pushing the message about the incumbent Democrat's strong support of President Barack Obama's failed policies.

"What we have is a senator who's voted 94 percent of the time with Barack Obama," Weh told Hayworth on "America's Forum." Udall, said Weh, has "never broken with the president, regardless of the failures in Washington and when I say failures, I'm talking about plural."

The public, "Republicans and independents," have had enough of Obama's "failed leadership, raw incompetence, and partisan gridlock," said Weh. There are some faithful adhering to the notion that the administration is competent, he continued, but "it is not competent and Tom Udall is part of the problem."

Until Labor Day, Weh's campaign was down by some 10 to 13 points, according to polling, but calculated that it could make a push between Labor Day and Election Day to close the gap.

According to RealClearPolitics, Udall still leads in polls by 12 percentage points, but Weh is optimistic.

"We have a shot at replacing him," Weh said. "He cast a deciding vote on Obamacare like a bunch of other Democrat senators. The fact of the matter is things are imploding around them and Americans want some change."

The retired officer also noted that he's running a solutions-based campaign, while Udall showed in his debate this week that he practices "gotcha politics."

"People are onto that," Weh said. "Here's a guy who shows up every six years to get re-elected instead of doing something every year of his six years. There's a big difference. New Mexico begins to realize they've got a clear choice and I'm telling you, the choice between myself and Tom Udall couldn't be any different."

Udall's campaign is running a "MediScare" debate, Hayworth pointed out, and the ads are still running, although Weh insists "I have never said I wanted to cut any of this stuff. I find it unbelievable."

He said he finds it "unbelievable" that an ad can be put up that says he has said such things, when he hasn't.

"They have no shame," said Weh. "This is the doggone-est thing I've ever seen, but it's OK. People understand that that old record has been played over and over again and it's finally broken."

Further, said Weh, Udall is "wrong for New Mexico" but he came to the seat because his father served in Congress "and this is just the family business."

All the same, Weh said, "I've never served in office but I've got a clearer view of where this country needs to go than this guy ever will."
