Ex-SEAL: Police Didn't Address Warnings of Manchester Attack

The Manchester terror attack, in which 22 people were killed and 116 wounded, could have been prevented if the British intelligence had paid attention to the warnings of the Islamic community and not worried about political correctness, former Navy SEAL Carl Higbie told Newsmax TV.

"I'm the first person to hit the Islamic community for not policing itself and not turning in other people when they know that there's terrorist activity going on, but the fact of the matter is the Islamic community stood up," Higbie told host Bill Tucker on Thursday's "America Talks Live."

"[They] said we have a problem with these guys, this mosque has recruiters, these guys are bad news, and yet the police did nothing about it. The response from the Islamic community was actually to police themselves this time, and the police are the ones that didn't.

"They didn't want anything to do with it, because they were denying that it was in existence, because they were too afraid that they were going to be labeled as targeting Islam or something, discrimination against Muslims, than they were to enforce the laws and protect their citizens."

British police arrested a sixth person Wednesday, a woman, in connection with Monday's suicide bombing, which occurred just moments after the end of a packed Ariana Grande concert. The bomber, identified as Salman Abedi, died in the explosion.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility in what is Britain's deadliest terror attack for more than a decade.

Higbie said he was stunned to learn the United Kingdom has some 3,500 people on a watch list who have been deemed a threat to society.

"But yet they're not deporting them; they're not arresting them; they're not further interrogating them," he told Tucker.

"This is their own doing, and if they don't start getting their act together, you're going to see a lot more of these. They want the British citizens to get used to this as business as usual. B.S. Absolutely not . . .

"If you want people to get used to this, you might as well just move to Syria."

Higbie is the author of "Enemies Foreign and Domestic: A SEAL's Story," written with Brandon Caro and published by Post Hill Press.
