Lionel to Newsmax TV: We Are 'Awash in Censorship'

By    |   Friday, 28 Apr 2017 07:12 PM

The American culture is "awash in censorship," syndicated radio and television personality Michael William Lebron, better known as Lionel, said Friday on Newsmax TV.

Lionel explained that whether it was U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and CIA Director Mike Pompeo wanting to pursue charges against WikiLeaks' Julian Assange for allowing classified information to be leaked, or the alt-left forcing The University of California at Berkeley to cancel a speech by conservative commentator Ann Coulter, many groups are rallying around the call to suppress free speech.

"We are awash in censorship from every fashion there is," Lionel said to host Steve Malzberg during a Facebook Live interview. "So, all I'm saying is we have left, right, middle — we love censorship."

Lionel also claimed the media was carrying out a relentless attack on President Donald Trump, when compared to previous presidents.

"We used to say that the media was either, for the most part, you know, left or liberal," he said. "Frankly, the ideologies may not necessarily be something that we or you or anybody might agree with, but they dealt with an ideology."

"Today that has been hijacked by a group of people who are basically saying, 'I'm left. I'm going to call myself left, a progressive. But, I'm basically alt-left and anti-Trump. I stand for nothing other than being against Trump. I don't care about issues,'" he added.

There was a "negative . . . concerted media effort" in years past against Republican Presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, Lionel explained, but today's media campaign has gone far beyond that.

"This is unrelenting relentless from every avenue, every newspaper, magazine, comedian, actor, actors, musical group, name it. Without a doubt, it is just mind-boggling, this rabid anti-Trump sentiment," he said.

The result, he explained, was the media had a tendency to overlook when Trump was engaged in something important to the U.S., such as dealing with international security or other issues that would benefit the country, which he claimed was in itself "fake news."

"If the president does something good, something that may ward off impending certain war, if it be something that's beneficial to us all, their disinclination to report is going to keep them from reporting the truth — and that's fake news," he said.
