Reagan: Don't Sweat Kushner as Trump's Adviser; My Dad, Carter Did the Same

Donald Trump's choice of his son-in-law Jared Kushner as senior White House adviser should not ring alarm bells because sitting presidents have always relied on family members for advice, Michael Reagan, the son of President Ronald Reagan, told Newsmax TV.

"I'm going to be honest with you, my dad had [his wife] Nancy, you have the president-elect who has Kushner," Reagan, a veteran political commentator, told Tuesday's "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"And just to give you an idea, my sister Maureen lived at the White House for much of the 1980's, advising my father on policy issues and what have you."

In addition, he said, Maureen Reagan even represented my father at the United National Conference on Women in Africa.

"So this is not unprecedented," he said. "Remember Amy Carter sat in on meetings her father [President Jimmy Carter] had at the White House."
