Michael Reagan: Hillary Botched Health News, Could Have Looked Like a Hero

Hillary Clinton's campaign team botched the disclosure of her recent diagnosis of pneumonia, missing an opportunity to cast her as a "hero" and turning it instead into a reason to speculate about her viability as a candidate, commentator Michael Reagan told Newsmax TV.

In an interview Monday with "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth, the son of former President Ronald Reagan argued the medical records of many past presidents have not been made public.

"The problem is you're asking everybody who would be reading this or listening to it, becoming a doctor and giving their opinion of a medical record," he said.

"Would [John F. Kennedy] have been a worse president or better president had we known about Addison's disease?" Reagan asked. "What about Dwight D. Eisenhower? He had heart attacks while he was actually the President of the United States. What about [Franklin D. Roosevelt]? Would he have been better or worse if everybody would've known about polio?"

But Reagan said the Clinton campaign mishandled the release of information on Clinton's pneumonia diagnosis – and should have made it public before her "overheating" episode on Sunday at the 9/11 memorial service.

"Had they announced Friday that, in fact Hillary Clinton, was suffering from pneumonia but she was going to in fact try to get to the memorial services in New York even though she had pneumonia – make her look like a hero," he said.

"Instead, they always try to hide things, and they think of it in a political ramification not in the health ramification. She's being talked about today simply because of the way they handled it."

Reagan said, ultimately, he hopes Clinton does not drop out of the race.

"I said a long time ago conservatives don't want [Vice President Joe Biden] to jump into this race, because there's many conservatives still looking for a place to jump off to and you don't want to give them the vice president to jump off," he said.

"I would hope that in fact that she doesn't drop out of the race. The easiest and best thing Trump has going for him he's running against Hillary. The best thing she has going for her, she's running against Trump."
