Reagan on Hillary Speeches: 'Not Abnormal to Be Paid Huge Amount of Money'

Michael Reagan, the oldest son of President Ronald Reagan, took some gentle swipes at Hillary Clinton on Thursday after it was revealed she took a huge fee from Goldman Sachs after leaving her job as secretary of state.

As Anderson Cooper revealed on CNN during a Town Hall event, Clinton accepted $675,000 from the investment powerhouse to deliver three speeches — money that may call into question her ability not to be beholden to Wall Street if she's elected president.

"That's probably what they offered. I mean she is Hillary Rodham Clinton, if you will, former first lady, former secretary of state," Reagan said on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

He then went on to make fun of Clinton's past cries of poverty.

"Remember, she was broke. My gosh, this poor woman coming out the White House had no money," Reagan joked.

"She had no furniture, didn't have a place to live, she was almost homeless, she had to make some money to pay for all these things."

Still, Clinton's money-making gig via speeches isn't uncommon, he noted.

"A lot of people go out and give speeches and people pay a lot of money to have someone come in and give a speech. Some of the people you know, conservative talkers, are getting paid $50,000 to go out and speak in places," Reagan said.

"Others are getting paid $75,000, others are being paid $100,000. It's not abnormal to be paid a huge amount of money by corporate America for you to come in and speak to the audience."

Reagan also discounts Clinton's explanation that she didn't know she'd be running for president after leaving the State Department as a reason she didn't question taking the speaking fees.

"Oh no, she always was going to run for president. I think everybody caught that one. Nah, come on Hillary. You were going to run for president," he said.
