Michael Reagan: George W. Bush Should Speak Up on Iraq

By    |   Friday, 05 Sep 2014 03:28 PM

It's time for former President George W. Bush to speak out and explain who's really to blame for the problems in the world, conservative commentator Michael Reagan tells Newsmax TV.

During an appearance on Fox News, Marc Thiessen, Bush's former chief speechwriter, cited what appears to be prophetic prediction in light of recent events the 43rd president made in 2007 about what would happen if the United States pulled out of Iraq prematurely.

"It would mean surrendering the future of Iraq to al-Qaida," Bush said. "It would mean that we'd be risking mass killings on a horrific scale. It would mean we allow the terrorists to establish a safe haven in Iraq to replace the one they lost in Afghanistan. It would mean increasing the probability American troops would have to return at some later date to confront an enemy that is even more dangerous."

However, Reagan told J.D. Hayworth on "America's Forum" on Friday, that Bush needs to start speaking up himself.

"We've reached a point in our society, in what's going on in the world, where the former president needs to not be making statements just through Marc Thiessen or anybody else," Reagan said.

"It's time for George W. Bush to quit taking the slings and arrows from the Democrats and blaming everything known to mankind on him, and it's time for him to hold the press conference," he said.

Conservatives "always say, 'well you know the media never covers our side', well they don't because nobody's really speaking, but if . . . the former president held a press conference to say wait a minute, 'I'm tired of being blamed for 2008, I'm tired of being blamed for this, I'm tired of being blamed for that, let me tell you what really happened and who is to blame here," Reagan said.

"The media would have to listen to George W. Bush," he added.

"It's time the leaders in the Republican Party, i.e., George W. Bush, stand up and said . . . 'You are ruining this country, you are taking it down the road to war, and you're blaming me, and I'm tired of it,'" Reagan said.

"That's what George W. Bush needs to do, and he should do it today."
