Klayman: Gorsuch Should Be Less 'Theatrical,' 'More Serious'

Judge Neil Gorsuch should play it straight during his confirmation hearings to replace Antonin Scalia on the U.S. Supreme Court, former federal prosecutor Larry Klayman, founder of the government watchdog Freedom Watch, told Newsmax TV.

"I think if I had any advice for the justice . . . I think he's probably a very good man, but he's being a little too theatrical there," Klayman told host Miranda Khan on Tuesday's "America Talks Live." "He's being a little bit too glib. I'd be much more serious about it."

Klayman said in the nation's roiling political climate, it is very hard for judges to make non-partisan decisions.

"I can tell you after 40 years of experience there are very few justices and very few judges who completely make decisions without politics," he told Khan.

"I hope that [Gorsuch will] be one of them, and I hope that we take him at his word on that, because frankly Democrat or Republican they all frequently cook the decision-making to suit their politics."

During questioning Tuesday before the Judiciary Committee, Gorsuch maintained he practiced the rigid neutrality that is required of a judge.

"My personal views, I tell you, Mr. Chairman, are over here. I leave those at home," Gorsuch said in response to a question from Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.

He also insisted President Donald Trump did not ask him to overturn the landmark abortion ruling Roe vs. Wade when he interviewed him before his nomination, saying he "would have walked out the door" if that had happened.
