Ex-Army Ranger: Terrorists Practicing for Hit on US

Friday, 20 Mar 2015 03:45 PM

Retired Army Ranger Kris "Tanto" Paronto tells Newsmax TV that he thinks recent terror attacks around the world are target practice for an eventual assault on the United States.

"It's going to take a little while, but they're honing their skills. That's what they're doing. They're hitting these easier places, and they're just practicing and practicing," Paronto said Friday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"It's going to come to us eventually," Paronto said. "I wouldn't be surprised if we had something come in the next six months."

In recent months, random attacks in countries as diverse as France, Tunisia and Israel have jolted the world.

Paronto, a former U.S. security contractor in Benghazi, said that while the United States portrays itself as "a stronger country, not a weaker target," the nation is not as strong as it once was.

"You've got to be strong with these people. You've got to be strong with your words and your convictions," he said.

"There has to be some integrity behind those words. It has to be some emotion, some real angst behind those words. But then the key to that is you follow through with it. That's what they respond to.

"You threaten them … we're going to get you [if] you come hit us, and then you actually go take them out and you kill their leadership or even kill their minions … And yeah, of course it would stop. That's what they respond to."

Paronto — coauthor of "13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened In Benghazi," written with his security colleagues and Mitchell Zuckoff and published by Twelve — said civil attempts to stop terror, such as negotiation and diplomacy, do not work.

"They respond to a heavy hand. They don't respond to the niceties, they don't respond to the hearts and minds. They don't. Not the terrorists, they don't," he said.

"You have to go and you have to take them out. They hit you with their fist, you've got to come in and you got to hit them with your car. That's how it is."
