Ex-Army Ranger: We Need to be Proactive on Terror Threats

By    |   Thursday, 02 Jul 2015 01:55 PM

When it comes to Fourth of July terror attack warnings, Kris Paronto, a former Army ranger and military contractor, tells Newsmax TV we need to be more proactive instead of reactive.

"We've got to be more proactive. We can't just be responding to attacks because by the time we respond to an attack. Benghazi is a perfect example; people are already dead," Paronto told "Newsmax Now" hosts John Bachman and Miranda Khan on Thursday. "If we're not proactive, we don't try to stop the person."

Less than a week after the FBI and Department of Homeland Security issued bulletins urging law enforcement to be weary of potential July Fourth terrorist attacks, the Washington Navy Yard went on lockdown on Thursday morning after reports of a shooter on the premises surfaced.

In response to the Navy Yard shooter, Paronto states that "you do have to come in with overwhelming force to try to stop any sort of active shooter or any sort of attack at all. You always want to have that advantage that gives you a better advantage of being successful but the problem is that we're being reactive again."

He said tightening security and being more observant are necessary steps to becoming more proactive.

"People need to expand their horizons and just be more aware of their surroundings just in general and we don't see that too much," Paronto said. "People are just in their own little worlds . . . doing their daily life and not concerned about other people and that hurts."
