Ex-FBI Agent Gilliam: Inauguration 'Lockdown' to Protect Trump

Security surrounding the inauguration of Donald Trump will be on a massive scale similar to the precautions taken during the annual New Year's Eve festivities in New York City, former Navy SEAL and FBI special agent Jonathan T. Gilliam tells Newsmax TV.

"They're going to lock down as much of the areas as they can. That means removing people from buildings … welding manhole covers shut, things like that," Gilliam said Thursday to Bill Tucker on "America Talks Live."

In addition, Gilliam said, roughly 30,000 sworn law enforcement officers will be stationed in the critical areas where Trump's motorcade travels.

"You're going to see a completely locked down area where people are not going to be able to get in there unless they're ticketed, they're not going to be able to carry certain types of bags and things like that and it's going to be a controlled environment," he said.

"The Secret Service, when they came to the FBI when I was there, asked us to lock our guns and our bullets and our handcuffs in our safes — not because they didn't trust but because they want to eliminate any variable that they can."

Gilliam said U.S. intelligence will work with the FBI and local, state and federal agencies to create a seamless wall of security, "not just because of terrorists, but because of local domestic disruptions."

"I think honestly our biggest threat out there this weekend is law enforcement who may … drop the ball either because they're complacent, because they don't like the candidate or because they're loyal to some of these [anti-Trump] activists believe it or not," he said.

"That's always the case in this type of environment — are people too complacent that they allow some of these protesters get through?"
