John Zogby: Clinton Foundation Questions Trump Email Scandal

By    |   Tuesday, 10 Mar 2015 07:12 PM

The email scandal plaguing Hillary Clinton is not as serious as the controversial donations made to the Clinton Foundation, says veteran pollster John Zogby, the CEO of Zogby Analytics.

"The much bigger issue is the money to the Clinton Foundation … [the] source of that money," Zogby said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"That within a broader context could be a bigger issue, but essentially its drip, drip, drip, drip. That's ultimately what may or may not tire the American people."

Clinton, a huge supporter of women's rights has been under fire for the foundation's acceptance of donations from foreign nations, some with abysmal records for the treatment of women.

And last week, The New York Times revealed how she had used a private email address and server to conduct some government business as secretary of state.

While Clinton is the presumed Democratic presidential candidate in 2016, could other Democrats, such as Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren or former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, have a chance?

It's possible for O'Malley, but less so for Warren, Zogby believes.

"[O'Malley] turned Baltimore from the city of 'The Wire' to the city that people look at. He is a successful mayor and governor," Zogby said.

"He had some problems getting a flawed lieutenant governor elected but nonetheless he seems to be an interesting fellow, seems to have some appeal to youth and to minorities.

"Elizabeth Warren has a lot of appeal on the left. The problem that she faces is she's a college professor who's never run anything before and I don't know that Democrats are ready to replay that one."

On the Republican side, Zogby is leery.

A recent Quinnipiac University poll showed former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker tied for the lead at 18 percent among potential GOP presidential contenders. Six other Republicans drew less than 10 percent apiece.

"What do I see in the Republican side? I see another flawed frontrunner," Zogby said. "In terms of the polls, why is a [Jeb] Bush at 17 or 18 [percent] and in some polls, second place?"
