John Zogby: Trump Will Keep 'His Position in Polls' After NYC Terror Incident

Tuesday, 20 Sep 2016 06:15 PM

Donald Trump will likely maintain his position in national polling in the wake of last weekend's terrorist bombings that rocked New York and New Jersey, pollster John Zogby tells Newsmax TV.

In an interview with "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth on Tuesday, Zogby, director of the Kennan Center for Entrepreneurship and author of "We Are Many, We Are One," said the GOP nominee was "on a bit of an upswing and Hillary Clinton was not" prior to the bombings that injured 29 in New York City.

"In the final analysis, the New York police, the New Jersey police, everybody came through and so it did not become the horror phenomenon of previous disasters," he said.

"You're probably going to see [Trump] at least keeping his position in the polls, in which right now he is a tad ahead in the battleground states."

Zogby warned polling, however, cannot tell the whole story just yet – declaring the presidential race is "too close" and that "the critical mass is somewhere in the middle of the low 40s for both candidates."

In the coming weeks, Zogby said the Clinton campaign will be looking at surveys to gauge the support of 18-29 year old voters and wonder "how to bring them home."

"In Trump's case … any Latino or African-American vote he can pick up – and it's really going to be miniscule – but anything he picks up helps him add to the advantage that he already has with middle class white voters," he added.
