Grover Norquist: Concealed Carry Gun Laws Decrease Crime

By    |   Thursday, 12 Feb 2015 05:43 PM

Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, says concealed carry gun laws are responsible for the nation's declining crime rate, not more incarceration of criminals.

"The mass incarcerations have had less of an impact. It certainly helped in the 80s and in the beginning of the 90s. We're seeing it have less impact [now]," Norquist said Thursday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"We have moved along, there are a lot fewer murders, rapes and assaults — the kind of crimes people don't commit because there's another person involved then they might have a gun on them.

"People don't break into houses if they think you have a gun and they don't carjack because you might have a gun in your car."

Norquist said a concealed carry permit held by a woman makes it more safe for her on the street.

"The woman somebody might want to rape or rob might have a gun in their purse and it slows down that thinking process and criminals are not committing as many violent crimes," he said.

"This is tremendous progress — only the left has blinders … they don't want to hear it, they don't want to know it, but we should know it as Americans … We ought to be aware of what's causing the drop in crime and keep moving forward."
