Donald Trump and Newt Gingrich campaigned together last week in Cincinnati — and the former House speaker tells Newsmax TV that the experience was similar to watching legendary entertainers Bob Hope and Bing Crosby perform in their classic "road" Hollywood movies.

"The rally was fabulous," the former Georgia congressman told host J.D. Hayworth on "Newsmax Prime" in an exclusive interview from Paris.

Gingrich, 73, is being vetted as a possible vice presidential choice. The July 6 rally was held at the Sharonville Convention Center.

"The people of Cincinnati were very, very enthusiastic. I've campaigned a large part of my life. He's obviously very, very good at it.

"We were just having fun," Gingrich said. "It was a little like watching Crosby and Hope for an older generation.

"None of the younger viewers will know that reference, but once upon a time, they were a team."

Crosby and Hope made seven "road" pictures between 1940 and 1962.

Gingrich later drew on another entertainment genre to further describe their chemistry.

"We're the political equivalent of jazz musicians," he told Hayworth. "We both love to play with the audience — and get a really good rhythm going and have it be exciting and fun and memorable.

"And, frankly, we're both deeply committed to taking out the left — and we're having fun doing it," he added. "We're having fun driving them crazy."

See more of Hayworth's exclusive interview with Gingrich on Monday at 8 and 11 p.m. ET only on "Newsmax Prime."
