Former New York Gov. George Pataki told Newsmax TV Friday people held responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks, even if that includes Saudi Arabia, need to be held responsible.

On the day the House passed a bill that would allow the family members of 9/11 victims to sue the Saudi government for its role in the attack, Pataki — who was New York's chief executive from 1995-2006 — said he supports the bill.

"Those who have any sort of responsibility for these horrible attacks should be held accountable," Pataki told host J.D. Hayworth on "Newsmax Prime."

"If you can't hold them accountable criminally, or if you can't hold them accountable like al-Qaida, by destroying every one of them who was involved in this, and that has got to continue to be a priority, then allowing the courts of law to do justice for those who lost loved ones, whose family suffered on Sept. 11, in my view, is fair."

Pataki then accused President Barack Obama of embracing nations that support terrorism.

"I understand geopolitics, I do better than President Obama apparently has," Pataki said. "He's done everything conceivable to alienate Saudi Arabia, to alienate Egypt, to embrace Iran, to allow [Syrian President Bashar al-] Assad to have this relationship with Hezbollah and Iran and [Russian President Vladimir] Putin.

"Now all of a sudden he's concerned? It's unfortunate."

Pataki also spoke about the possibility of One World Trade Center, also known as the Freedom Tower, being put up for sale by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

"We're proud of our freedom, we're proud of America," Pataki said. "We're going to soar to new heights. The Freedom Tower has done that and it would be appropriate if it were in private hands. That wouldn't trouble me, so long as the commitment to the memorial, the museum, the transportation facilities remains intact."
