Ex-CIA Officer Fred Fleitz on EgyptAir Crash: Something Was Wrong With the Plane

The EgyptAir jet made several mysterious abrupt turns in the air before crashing into the Mediterranean Sea and killing 66 people early Thursday very likely because "there was something wrong with the plane," former CIA analyst Fred Fleitz tells Newsmax TV.

"Maybe there was a fight for control of the plane," Fleitz told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth. "Maybe the plane had been damaged by an explosion and the pilots were trying to regain control of the aircraft.

"Something unusual was going on and the good thing is this plane went down in the Mediterranean.

"It did go down in the deep part of the Mediterranean, but I think we will get those black boxes very quickly — and I think investigators will know very quickly what happened," Fleitz said.

Egyptian officials released the passenger list by nationality. The move requires American and foreign intelligence agencies to work together to determine whether the Islamic State, al-Qaida or other terrorists are involved, former House Intelligence Committee Chairman Pete Hoekstra added.

"There's a number of layers and we need to use the intelligence community to find out exactly where the gaps are and how ISIS is exploiting this," he told Hayworth.

"Egypt is a target. Egypt is at the crosshairs of ISIS right now. Egypt is the place where the Muslim Brotherhood was founded [in 1928]. This is the epicenter of radical jihadists.

"This administration — the Obama administration, Hillary Clinton — they didn't have steady leadership," Hoekstra added. "What they provided was the opportunity for the Muslim Brotherhood to take control of Egypt, to govern it for almost a year.

"Luckily, the Egyptian people in the military stood up and revolted — but Egypt continues to be at the crosshairs because right now, Egypt is isolated.

"This administration will not embrace the new government," he said. "They will not provide them with military assistance

"Egypt has been a stabilizing force in the Middle East, and right now they feel like they are isolated."
