Tim Jones: Eric Holder Thinks Feds Can Police Better Than Locals

By    |   Tuesday, 17 Mar 2015 02:46 PM

Former Missouri House Speaker Tim Jones, who has been heavily involved with the problems in Ferguson, says that Attorney General Eric Holder thinks the federal government can handle local policing better than those close to the ground.

"My issue with the attorney general is he has not found a police department of which he approves," Jones told J.D. Hayworth and Miranda Khan on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV Tuesday.

"He has done 15 to 16 investigations and every single one has come up with basically the same conclusion — the police are bad, the departments need to be punished, and the federal government can do a much better job at local law enforcement than the local folks," he explained.

"It's just a conclusion that not only conservatives disagree with but common sense people across the spectrum do not believe the federal government can do better at local policing than local police departments," he said.

While Jones said that "there needs to be some accountability in Ferguson . . . it's up to the people of that community and that locality to determine what course their police department needs to go in next."

Jones said that he faults outside influences for a lot of the problems and violence that occurred following the decision not to indict police officer Darren Wilson for the death of black teenager Michael Brown.

"The records are replete with the fact that most of the arrests that have been made of the non-peaceful protestors, of the agitators, are not only not from Ferguson but they're not even from the St. Louis region or even the state of Missouri," the former Missouri House speaker explained.

"When the national news media, mainly the old media, when the attorney general, when the president go away, the community starts to heal itself," he contends.

"But every time they come back in, the wounds are reopened and the community is not allowed to move forward."
