Ex-Navy SEAL: Send National Guard to Ferguson to Save City

By    |   Thursday, 12 Mar 2015 08:48 PM

The National Guard should be sent to Ferguson, Missouri, and the entire city locked down in the wake of the shooting of two police officers, former Navy Seal and FBI agent Jonathan Gilliam says.

"It's gotten to the point where they should deploy the National Guard, lock the whole city down, there's a curfew, and they even [take over] the airwaves until people start coming together," Gilliam said Thursday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"Community leaders need to come up and then they can back off. Otherwise, it's going to be more of the same and it's just going to get worse and worse."

Early Thursday, two police officers were shot and seriously wounded outside the Ferguson police headquarters during a protest over a critical Justice Department report that found racism in the department. Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson has since resigned.

"It doesn't matter who is chief of police or who is mayor. They have to fix this," Gilliam said.

"What's going on in Ferguson is a very clear picture of what's happening with our foreign policy. First off, there's no leadership. There's no plan. Everything is 100 percent reaction.

"This problem could be easily, easily solved if they had effective community leaders and effective law enforcement, city and state government leaders that came in and said: No more."

Ferguson has been a powder keg of racial unrest since last August when Michael Brown, an African-American teen, was shot by Darren Wilson, a white officer, during a confrontation. Wilson was later cleared of criminal charges and civil rights violations, but a Justice Department investigation found racism existed in the force.
