One of 'Greatest Generals,' MacArthur Inspires in Newsmax TV Special

By    |   Wednesday, 15 Apr 2015 03:30 PM

On the night of March 12, 1942, American Gen. Douglas MacArthur and several staff members left the island of Corregidor in the Philippines as the Japanese tightened their grip on the island nation, with MacArthur vowing in a speech in Australia eight days later: "I shall return."

An iconic photograph snapped on Oct. 20, 1944, shows MacArthur, true to his word, wading ashore in the Philippines on the day he declared: "People of the Philippines, I have returned." Those are among the historic moments in American military history featured in an inspiring documentary, "The Greatest Generals: Douglas MacArthur," which will be shown on Newsmax TV on Sunday at 11 p.m. ET.

From cradle to grave, MacArthur spent his life in the Army. The son of an Army general, MacArthur graduated from West Point and went on to become a five-star general.

The stirring documentary follows MacArthur's career as an indefatigable leader who served his country in World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. It focuses on the high points in his life — including his official acceptance of Japan's surrender aboard the USS Missouri in September 1945, his oversight of the occupation of Japan, and his address before Congress upon leaving the military after 52 years — and the low point in April 1951 when he was removed from command of Allied forces in Korea by President Truman following MacArthur's criticism of Truman's war policies.

The documentary adds to the diverse programing featured on Newsmax TV, the new lifestyle, news, and information channel.
