Dick Morris: Trump Can Attract Idle Voters Long 'Outside the System'

By    |   Tuesday, 27 Sep 2016 08:17 PM

Donald Trump might ultimately attract the disgruntled voters who traditionally stay home on Election Day, but in this "crazy" presidential race, could "opt in," Newsmax TV political analyst Dick Morris said Tuesday.

In an interview with "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth on Tuesday, Morris, author of the bestselling "Armageddon: How Trump Can Beat Hillary," said Trump is "talking to" late deciders.

"They'll tell you 'I haven't voted in 30 years, they're all politicians, they're all corrupt, I hate them all,' and Trump is really reaching those voters," Morris said.

"They're the people that are outside the system and they usually don't even come in, but they'll focus on the idea that Trump is running when we get right up to Election Day, and then whereas they usually opt out, in this case I think there's a good chance that they'll opt in."

Morris said there is another "fascinating political phenomenon" also playing out.

"The other things that's crazy about this year's election is that the Democratic Party, which has always been the party of the downscale voter, now is really the party of the upscale voter and the Republican Party is the party of the downscale," he said. "The working class is going for the Republican Party. It's a reincarnation really of the [Ronald] Reagan Democrat."

Morris pointed to one particularly notable moment in the first presidential debate between Trump and Hillary Clinton on Monday night, saying it shows the Democratic nominee is worried about the election.

Recalling the exchange in the debate where Clinton attacked Russia's President Vladimir Putin of cyberhacking Democratic National Committee emails, Morris suggested Clinton "knows that Putin has her deleted emails."

"I think she is terrified that he's going to dump them in October – and her statements were just short of threatening war, literally, about Putin dumping those emails because if he did that, it would kill her candidacy."

Morris is the co-author of the new book, "Armageddon: How Trump Can Beat Hillary." (Humanix) with Eileen McGann, available on Amazon  or B+N.com
