Dinesh D'Souza said Thursday he is pleased President Donald Trump has ousted top Obama-era staffers from the State Department — and the conservative author and award-winning filmmaker praises the new commander-in-chief as "a man of his word."

"This news leaves me elated . . . The State Department [has been] a constant thorn in the side of Republicans," D'Souza said on Newsmax TV's "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"They were a thorn in the side of [Ronald] Reagan, of [George W.] Bush, and they would be of Trump. So, to clean that place out and fumigate it and bring in some new people couldn't be better."

NBC News reported Thursday that the Trump administration began cleaning house in the State Department by booting undersecretary for management Patrick Kennedy, assistant secretaries Joyce Barr and Michele Bond, and Gentry Smith, who runs the Office of Foreign Missions.

Other reports said the four as well as other staffers had resigned — but it's clear they were no longer wanted.

Bloomberg News reported that while he has not yet been confirmed by the Senate, Trump's nominee for secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, has started to "exert control" over the department.

A good start, believes D'Souza, director of 2016 documentary "Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party."

"Trump is a true outsider. A business guy who comes in, who looks at the world with sort of fresh eyes, and there's a kind of beautiful simplicity to that," he told Steve Malzberg.

"Now Trump obviously has a lot of learning to do, but at the same time, this kind of candor is ultimately something that is a real contrast with Obama.

"With Obama's kind of duplicity, his backroom dealing both domestically and internationally, look what it's done to American prestige and power around the world. I don't think we could do worse. So I think Trump is on the right track."

He called Trump "a man of his word."

"He comes into office and he literally starts doing one by one all the things that he said he would do. He said he would work to repeal Obamacare, he's out the gate on that one. He said he would overturn Obama's executive orders, he's already done a bunch of that," D'Souza said.

"He said he would block international funding for Planned Parenthood, he's already done that. And his big theme from the campaign, the wall [at the U.S.-Mexico border], that he's already [on]. Now how he pulls this off is going to be a great measure of the skill of his presidency.

"If he can figure out a way to not only build a way but get the Mexicans to pay for it, I think even those of us who supported him would be very impressed."

There's no love lost between D'Souza and the Obama administration.

In 2014, D'Souza was sentenced to eight months of community service and five years of probation after pleading guilty to charges of using straw donors to support a New York Senate campaign. He maintains he was targeted by the Obama administration for his political beliefs.

"Hillary's America," now available on DVD, is rated PG-13 for some violence, thematic elements and smoking.
