Dick Morris: Hillary's ISIS Strategy Walks a 'Very Fine Line'

Hillary Clinton's plan for battling the Islamic State is "walking the very fine line between alienating the left and being acceptable to the center" because she must win two elections next year, political strategist Dick Morris told Newsmax TV on Thursday.

"The primary and the general," Morris continued in an interview with "Newsmax Now" hosts John Bachman and Miranda Khan. "The problem is that the same rhetoric can't win both.

"The left is demanding relative passivity. The right and the center are demanding bold action. In not advocating ground troops, which she obviously did by omission, she's really aligned herself with the left and is going to find it very hard to backtrack to the center.

"This is an issue where the Democratic Party is going over a cliff in resisting the idea of a ground attack against ISIS," Morris said.

In a later interview with "The Hard Line" host Ed Berliner, the strategist said that last week's deadly Paris attacks have proven to be "the moment has come up to fit the candidate" — Donald Trump.

"He was locked in a tie with Ben Carson — and now that this issue has surfaced, everybody's concluding that Carson is too weak and Trump is just the kind of strength that we need.

"Trump understands that this issue of vetting the Syrian refugees is ridiculous," Morris added. "How can you conceivably vet folks?

"The answer is to keep them out of the country — and it's not a religious test. It's a geographic test.

"We have plenty of instances where we declared a nation a terrorist monster and we don't permit them to do certain things," he told Berliner. "That should include sending us refugees."
