Dick Morris: I'm a Fan of Trump's 'Truth-Telling Ability'

Real estate mogul and Apprentice reality show creator Donald Trump has a formidable "truth-telling ability" to say what voters are thinking, but will have to prove he can "harness" his "outspokenness" as a presidential candidate, political strategist Dick Morris tells Newsmax TV.

In an interview with Newsmax "The Hard Line" host Ed Berliner, the co-author of "Power Grab"  admits he's "a Donald Trump fan."

"The issue with Donald is, can he harness that aggressiveness, that outspokenness, that truth telling ability to really resonate with what voters are thinking?'" Morris noted.

"There's an enormous gap between what the conventional wisdom is willing to say, and what voters themselves think. … Trump will span that gap very brilliantly."

Morris said Ralph Nader also defied conventional wisdom with his searing criticism of Hillary Clinton – and some powerful women in politics.

Nader called Clinton a "deep corporatist and a deep militarist," and decried those women in politics, including Clinton, Madeleine Albright and "some of [President Barack] Obama's advisers" who try "to overcompensate in becoming more aggressive and macho so they are not accused of being soft on the need to kill and war."

Morris said Nader nailed it.

"Hillary understood in Arkansas when she watched other women candidates run in the South how crucial it was to be militarist in order to win —  and Margaret Thatcher was always kind of a role model as to how she'd handle herself as opposed to, like Elizabeth Dole, or someone who would be pro-military but not crazy about it," he said.

"So when Hillary joined the Senate, she made a point to join the Armed Services Committee, which was like a first for a New York liberal, and then was a strong supporter of the Patriot Act, voted for the Iraq War, and even though she had a distaste for the military left over from her left-wing Wellesley days, she jumped in with both feet so that nobody would ever think she could not be commander in chief."

But what will "kill her in the primary," Morris predicts, are her ties to Wall Street.

"The real problem in the Clinton Foundation is this incredibly close nexus between her and the entire financial establishment of Wall Street and that's going to hurt her badly," he said.

"The conflicts of interest with foreign governments, the bribery in effect, those were all general election issues. But what can really kill her in the primary is being too close to Goldman Sachs."
