Dick Morris: Trump Wrong to Attack Carson on Lack of Experience

By    |   Tuesday, 03 Nov 2015 04:40 PM

Veteran political analyst Dick Morris says Donald Trump is a stronger candidate than Dr. Ben Carson but he disagrees with the billionaire developer's claim that Carson is not qualified for the job of commander-in-chief.

Trump, ahead of Carson in some polls and behind him in others, told Fox News: "I like Ben, but Ben can't do the job, I mean there's no question about it. He's not going to be able to negotiate with China. It's not his thing…." He also called Carson "very weak on immigration."

But Morris said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV that Trump is "on the wrong track" in his criticism.

"He should not be attacking Carson for lack of experience. We want people with less experience, we want people from outside of government to run or crafting new ground," Morris said.

"What we don't want is a weak leader and Trump is strong and Carson is weak. That's what he should be projecting, that's what the polling suggests, and it's what Trump should do.

"You have a race between the polling frontrunners, Trump and Carson, and that will either continue or they will sink back to Earth. We just can't tell."

Morris also said there is an interesting "undercard" in the GOP competition for the 2016 presidential nomination, which he said may never come to fruition. That's Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida going head to head with Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush "falling out of it."

"Jeb Bush wreaks of the past," Morris told Malzberg. "And we see him and we see his brother and we see his father and those were not very successful presidencies."

Morris, a Newsmax contributor and former adviser to President Bill Clinton, is the author of "Power Grab: Obama's Dangerous Plan for a One-Party Nation," written with Eileen McGann and published by Humanix.
