Rep. Diane Black: We Won't Pass Obama's Tax and Spend Budget

President Obama has presented Congress with the "same old, same old" kind of budget that pushes more spending and more taxes, according to Rep. Diane Black.

"I'm glad he did get the message that, by the Constitution, he's required to give us a budget on time, which he did — that's a good thing, we'll give him that," Black, a Tennessee Republican, said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"But once again this is just the same old, same old. It's more spending, raising taxes, nothing new.

"That's really discouraging to us because the president said he wanted to work together and what he has given us is nothing new and just the same old, same old."

The fiscal 2016 budget unveiled Monday in the nation's capital, tips the financial scales at $4 trillion, contains tax raises on wealthy Americans and financial institutions.

Those tax raises are intended to boost middle-class Americans by leaving more money in their pockets.

Black, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, said Washington lawmakers need to get the nation's rampant spending — which has created an $18 trillion deficit — under control.

"What we have here in Washington is a spending problem … We just cannot continue to put more debt on these future generations. [It's] very concerning."

The budget, as proposed by the president, "is going nowhere, I want to tell you that," Black added.

She said the Obama administration is also tweaking the nation's job picture, making it seem much better than it is.

"[They] come out and try to make everything look cheery. They said the economy is growing and everything is just so good under this president," Black said.

"The unemployment rate is not the true measure of what's happening in this country. We know … more Americans have dropped out of the labor force.

"We've got about a 62.7 percent labor participation rate, and we're seeing that wages have declined. So no, it's not cheery as the president would like us to believe … This economy is not recovering the way they indicate."
