By    |   Friday, 05 Sep 2014 05:03 PM

The nation can expect a "negative, vicious campaign" as Democrats attempt to recapture the House in the upcoming midterm elections, says Ed Rogers, contributor to The Washington Post's PostPartisan blog.

"They certainly don't have an affirmative plan or an affirmative agenda," Rogers told Joe Concha, guest host of "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

This is going to be a negative, vicious campaign…. You can bet there will be ads on television accusing Republicans of wanting to take away Social Security.''

In addition, Rogers believes, Democrats may try to use the racial unrest in Ferguson, Mo., in a bid to discredit GOP candidates.

"The New York Times ran a piece about the Democrats wanting to use the events around Ferguson to have blacks 'channel their anger' and have African Americans vote Democratic," Rogers said.

"It says something to their cynicism, desperation and frankly it's a little mean-spirited.

"The notion that they are going to manipulate that event in furtherance of one political party's advantage over another, is a new level of cynicism and may be the low point for 2014 and that's saying something."

Rogers is chairman of the BGR Group, a bipartisan government relations, strategic communications, and investment banking firm.
