Club for Growth's McIntosh: GOP Needs to Be True to Voters

With Republicans about to become the majority in the House and Senate, there exists an opportunity to “set a new course for America” by cutting taxes, impeding runaway spending, promoting free trade and getting arms around over-regulation that has mushroomed under President Barack Obama, incoming Club for Growth President David McIntosh said Tuesday on Newsmax TV's “America’s Forum.”

Over the next two years, the Republican-led Congress needs to get bills to Obama’s desk, forcing him to sign or veto, according to McIntosh, a former representative from Indiana.

Forcing the president’s hand will mean he has “no place to hide.”

It was not a “good sign” that the House extended Obama’s spending for an entire year with the passage of the $1.1 trillion spending bill.

“I hope that they are going to be true to their word and switch to regular order where they actually go through each of the spending bills,” he said, adding that it was a failed opportunity to show the country the direction the new leadership is headed.

The newly elected Congress needs to heed the message of the electorate and repeal Obamacare, something McIntosh called a “terrible piece of legislation.”

“Every single Republican that won in the Senate this time ran on that in the races where they captured the majority,” McIntosh pointed out.

“They need to do it and do it in a serious way. The president's going to fight them every step of the way, so we'll get some of it done and then some of it will create a record and the difference between the two parties, as you point out, will be a very clear difference leading into 2016.

“It's the one new program that I've seen in my lifetime where as it became implemented more and more Americans say they disapprove of it,” he said, adding that more people are becoming uninsured as a result of a bill that was supposed to help people get insurance.

“The 'cromnibus' gave it another year of life support, if you will, but they need to pick up the battle early in January to take away a lot of the key parts of that.”
