Dana Milbank: Obama Immigration Strategy Didn't Help Midterms

President Barack Obama would have likely helped Democrats if he'd issued an executive order on immigration before the midterm elections, Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank says.

"I don't think it would have hurt them anymore than they were already hurt, but if you look at Charlie Crist in Florida, yeah, he might have won if he had a better Latino turnout. Mark Udall in Colorado, he might have won. Some of those House seats, they might have won," Milbank said Friday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"It wouldn't have fundamentally changed the election, but Democrats in the long-term need that Latino vote and it was not there in large numbers for them this time.

"If they can't improve on that, then this long-term demographic advantage the Democrats have goes away and that's a huge deal."

Milbank said Obama's reluctance to act didn't save any Democrats.

"And now he's going to create open warfare with the Republican majority whereas he probably could have gotten away with it before and now it's going to be World War III."
