CBN's Mitchell: Mideast Christians Feel Abandoned by US

Many persecuted Christians in the Middle East feel abandoned both by the U.S. government and the American church, Chris Mitchell, Middle East bureau chief for CBN News, tells Newsmax TV.

"Just a few weeks ago we were with some of these families in Jordan," Mitchell told "Newsmax Prime." "They asked people to pray for them, for their situation."

Mitchell is author of a new book on the Islamic State (ISIS) titled "Destination Jerusalem," in which he details some of the horror stories of Christians persecuted and killed for their faith by the terror group.

"The United States is not speaking up, the church is not speaking up as much as they expect, and governments are really not doing what they can do to defeat ISIS," Mitchell said Christians who have fled ISIS have told him.

"There's some Jewish leaders that are speaking out more on behalf of persecuted Christians in the Middle East, more than Christian leaders, and the reason they do that is they know what it means when people keep silent about these kind of atrocities."

One man had his house searched by ISIS. When they found two New Testaments they accused him of being a missionary or a spy.

"He actually asked the Lord to forgive ISIS," Mitchell said. "This is the kind of circumstances that many Christians find themselves in throughout the Middle East."

A group of young women was captured by ISIS and told to convert to Islam or die. They refused and were beheaded.

ISIS isn't just a concern in Iraq and Syria, he said, since the group is bent on ruling the world via an Islamic caliphate.

"Their ultimate goal is world domination, so it's coming to the United States and people really need to understand that truth," he said.
