Ben Carson: Americans Deserve a 'Re-Vote' on Obamacare

By    |   Friday, 12 Dec 2014 10:31 AM

The testimony of Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber before Congress is proof that deception was used to pass the healthcare legislation, retired neurosurgeon and potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson said Friday on Newsmax TV's “America’s Forum.”

“If there's any decency left in us as a nation, we should re-vote it,” he said. We should talk about it again and re-vote it.”

The majority of Americans are opposed to Obamacare, especially now that they know what it entails, he added.

“If we let this stand as it is, it sets a precedent that says whatever you can get through by hook or by crook, it's OK. That is not what America was supposed to be. People have got to stand up. I mean if we allow these kinds of things to continue, the moral fabric of our nation completely erodes, we become something else completely.”

During his testimony, Gruber apologized for having repeatedly said that enacting Obamacare relied on Americans’ “stupidity.”

Carson, a quick-rising darling of the tea party faction of the Republican Party, also discussed his recent trip to Israel, a visit that stoked the flames of pundits weighing whether the doctor plans to enter the 2016 race for the presidency.

“As I consider a run, Israel is an extremely important place to have a good pulse on,” he explained. “We've all read a lot about it, we've all heard a lot about it, but if you haven't actually been there, experienced the culture, talked to the people, you're always going to have a little bit of a distorted impression.”

He left with the impression that Israel no longer has confidence that the United States is a “solid ally,” something he characterized as “problematic … because if we can't support them, what are our other allies thinking? We have to really think about these ramifications and at some point, we have to lead. We have to have actual foreign policy that is proactive, that is not just reactive to what's going on. Look at the things that Putin is doing. Are we doing anything to stop him? Of course not.”

Carson remained elusive on his intentions for 2016, sticking with his statement that he is “considering it very seriously” and will make an announcement by May 1.
