Ex-Sec. Service Agent: 'Security' Poor WH Excuse for Paris Snub

Friday, 16 Jan 2015 06:27 PM

The White House's excuse that security concerns prevented President Barack Obama from attending a huge rally in support of the Paris terror victims is "complete garbage," says Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent who was assigned to Obama and George W. Bush.

"[Obama] has no problem asking the Secret Service to secure 18 holes on a golf course, which is … just as difficult if not more difficult than securing an event like that," Bongino said Friday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"The French National Police and their special security forces that work presidential and VIP security are extremely talented and well trained.

"That street was about the most secure place on the planet. [White House Press Secretary] Josh Earnest knows it."

The U.S. came under fire when it failed to send anybody to the massive rally held in Paris in support of the 12 victims executed by Islamic extremists at the satirical magazine "Charlie Hebdo."

Bongino — author of "Life Inside the Bubble: Why a Top-Ranked Secret Service Agent Walked Away from It All," published by WND Books, — said Obama put the blame on others too often.

"What’s particularly disingenuous and what’s really starting to get under my skin and the skin of many others is this president’s habit of not just blame, a lot of presidents blame people, but this guy blames everyone for everything he does wrong," he said.

"And then he picks on the people who he knows can’t fight back, in this case the men and women of the Secret Service who would happily forfeit their lives for him. What a disgraceful act."

That said, Bongino added, the Secret Service is very capable of handling last-minute trips by the commander-in-chief.

"I don’t agree with these trips, they’re a terrible idea and the staff shouldn’t push them on the Secret Service because, although the Secret Service can do it, they’re security nightmares and someone’s going to get hurt one day," he said.

"I did a trip to an active war zone in Afghanistan that the president had no problem taking with probably just as much time … maybe a little more."
