Andrew Bostom: Rome May Be in ISIS' Crosshairs

By    |   Tuesday, 17 Feb 2015 06:56 PM

Rome could be a major target for the Islamic State as it continues its heinous anti-Christian campaign of violence, says Middle East expert Dr. Andrew Bostom, a professor of medicine at Brown University.

And, he added, Libya also has an ax to grind with Rome, making the threat even more serious.

Bostom spoke with "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV on Tuesday, as Rome was under heavy police guard following the release of a video which showed 21 Egyptian Christians slaughtered one by one.

In the video, an Islamic State leader boasts his group "will conquer Rome, by Allah’s permission," a threat that has police beefing up security around Vatican City and the city’s monuments and churches, including the Coliseum.

"There are mixed messages or dual messages in that pronouncement that accompanied the grisly beheadings of 21 Coptic Christians in that Rome could be a target for Christianity in general," Bostom said.

"But Libya has a specific gripe with Italy as the colonial power that occupied Libya. So there could be a dual message."

Bostom was referring to Libya’s time as an Italian colony, which continued from the early 1900s through 1947, an occupation that caused bad blood.

Bostom is the author of "Iran's Final Solution for Israel: The Legacy of Jihad and Shi'ite Islamic Jew-Hatred in Iran," published by CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform.
