Middle East Expert: US Needs to See Iran for Its Duplicity

By    |   Friday, 16 Jan 2015 12:15 PM

Iran is not interested in striking a nuclear proliferation deal with the United States but is stringing America along in order to "lift the sanctions" and "get economic relief" without "delivering anything," Middle East commentator and National Council of Resistance member Alireza Jafarzadeh said Friday on "America’s Forum" on Newsmax TV.

"That’s why it’s not an accident that a year and a half roughly into the talks there has been no improvement in terms of dismantling the Iranian regime’s program," said Jafarzadeh.

"What Tehran is doing, they’re upping the ante, constantly during the negotiations, increase their level of demands. For instance, they said we want to do research and development on the advance centrifuge machines like IR5, which is roughly 10-20 times faster than the regular centrifuge machines they have.

"When the world is talking about dismantling the enrichment capability of Iran, the Iranian regime is talking about improving their enrichment capabilities, so you really need an outside leverage.

"You need a game changer to put things in the right track, and that’s where the Congress can come in and play its role," Jafarzadeh said. "Remember, it was Congress that brought the Iranian regime to the negotiating table by imposing sanctions on the Iranian regime."

Iran is the major player behind the scenes in places like Iraq, Lebanon and Syria, funding terrorism throughout the region, he said.

"What the United States needs to do, they need to hold the Iranian regime responsible for every wrongdoing they’re doing in the region, for all their nefarious activity," he said.

Instead, "what we see is that the administration is welcoming the Iranian regime’s involvement in Iraq … under the banner that they are fighting ISIS and what not, but the real agenda of Tehran is to put the Shiite militias, their own forces in power in Iraq and maintain their status in Syria.

"That’s not acceptable because the more influence that Iran brings to the picture in Iraq, the more violence you will see, the more sectarian divide you will see."
