The United States is essentially aiding Iran-sponsored terrorism if Congress agrees to remove sanctions as part of the nuclear deal recently negotiated by the Obama administration, Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz tells Newsmax TV.

"The convention against genocide provides that nobody can help or aid genocide," Dershowitz told "The Hard Line" host Ed Berliner on Tuesday. "And by giving them that money, we're aiding genocide. We're accessories to terrorism."

President Barack Obama has likened Republicans in Congress who oppose the deal to the hardliners in Iraq, and now that New York Sen. Chuck Schumer and other Democrats have come out against the deal, they also have been under fire.

Dershowitz, author of "The Case Against the Iran Deal: How Can We Stop Iran from Getting Nukes?" said it is time for Obama to stop name-calling.

"I'm his worst nightmare because I'm strongly against this deal, I'm a liberal Democrat, I voted for him twice," Dershowitz said.

Obama invited him to the Oval Office and to talk to his national security team about the deal, but failed to persuade him to support it Dershowitz said.

"I don't think it's fair to call me stupid or a warmonger or a Republican or a neocon," he told Newsmax. "I'm just a loyal American who cares deeply about the United States, who's thought about this deal."

Obama has to remember he's in the minority on this issue, Dershowitz said, and that the vast majority of Americans are opposed to the deal as are most senators and representatives.

"He stands alone, and the Constitution doesn't really authorize a president to make such important foreign policy decisions with only his vote and the vote of 33 or 34 senators without the House and without the majority of the Senate going along."
