Dershowitz: Rabbis at AIPAC Wrong to Walk Out on Trump

By    |   Monday, 21 Mar 2016 07:32 PM

Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz thinks rabbis at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference did a "terrible disservice" by walking out on Donald Trump's speech Monday.

Dershowitz, who supports Democrat Hillary Clinton for president, tells Ed Berliner on Newsmax TV's "The Hard Line" the rabbis should have stayed to hear what Trump had to say — even if they don't agree with him.

"I'm disappointed that the radical left rabbis walked out on him and didn't at least give him a chance to speak," Dershowitz says. "They wouldn't have walked out on Bernie Sanders, who of course turned down the opportunity to speak because he didn't want to alienate his hard left anti-Israel constituents. Bernie Sanders is the same guy who walked out on Benjamin Netanyahu when he came and spoke in front of Congress. So I wish the rabbis would at least give Trump a chance.

"I think the rabbis are doing a terrible disservice, those rabbis who were walking out on Trump without giving him the courtesy of listening to him. I don't walk out on my rabbis, although often I disagree quite fundamentally with what they're saying. You give people respect."

Trump came under fire from Clinton during her AIPAC speech Monday, calling out the business mogul's stance to remain "neutral" on Israel and the Palestinians.
