WH Official: Secret Service Can Protect Against Drones

By    |   Wednesday, 28 Jan 2015 05:13 PM

The Secret Service is prepared to protect the White House from drone attacks, said Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz Wednesday.

A drone crashed on the White House lawn Monday, which turned out to be owned and operated by a government employee and hobbyist, who said that the crash was an accident and that he hadn't intended to fly the drone near President Barack Obama's residence.

However, it did raise questions about why the Secret Service wasn't able to protect against the drone.

Schultz said that the Secret Service is now implementing a "technology" that is able to keep the White House grounds safe from further breaches, The Hill is reporting.

"This technology is not new to the Secret Service. This is something they've been working through for some time," he explained.

Although the White House spokesman wasn't able to divulge any details about how the technology works.

However, the Secret Service has not disclosed if its technology is what brought the hobby drone down in the first place.
