Gen. McInerney: 'Half-Hearted' US Effort on ISIS Led to UAE Pullout

By    |   Wednesday, 04 Feb 2015 10:14 PM

A "half-hearted" effort by the United States in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS), was behind the United Arab Emirates' decision to stop flying its planes in airstrikes over Syria, says retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney.

"They don't see a determined U.S. air effort," McInerney said Wednesday on Fox News Channel's "The Kelly File."

McInerney said the United States flew 1,100 sorties a day against Saddam Hussein during Operation Desert Storm in the early 21st century and 800 a day in 1993 during Operation Iraqi Freedom

"We are flying seven strike sorties a day now," McInerney said. "It isn't even pinpricks, and I think that the UAE is seeing this half-hearted effort by the United States is not really doing what needs to be done."

Rep. Devin Nunes, the new chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, also appeared on the show, telling most Megyn Kelly there is no real plan in place to deal with the spread of radical Islam across north Africa.

Nunes said he has just met with Egyptians and Libyans begging for Congress' help because they aren't getting anywhere with the White House or State Department.

"If it had not been for two reporters getting their heads cut off I don't think this White House would have ever engaged, and our closest ally in Iraq, … the Kurds, would have been completely overrun," he said.
