After Texas Sen. Ted Cruz slammed The New York Times for not including his memoir on its best-seller list, the newspaper said Wednesday that "A Time for Truth" will appear at No. 7 on its hardcover nonfiction list.

The rank will reflect second-week sales, Times spokeswoman Eileen Murphy says, Politico reports. The memoir was not included on the list in its first week, leading Cruz to charge the Times with liberal bias and secrecy in its selection process.

The newspaper had contended that Cruz's book sales were based on "strategic bulk purchases."

"The Times is presumably embarrassed by having their obvious partisan bias called out," Cruz campaign spokesman Rick Tyler said on Friday. "But their response — alleging 'strategic bulk purchases' — is a blatant falsehood.

"The evidence is directly to the contrary," he added. "In leveling this false charge, the Times has tried to impugn the integrity of Senator Cruz and of his publisher HarperCollins."

Both HarperCollins and Amazon, the nation's largest Internet retailer, found no evidence of bulk sales in its research.

Appearing Wednesday on Fox News Channel's "The Kelly File," Cruz said the Times doesn't want people to read his book.

He said he appreciates the newspaper adding his book to next week's list but he called on the Times' public editor to investigate its methods.

"They leveled a false charge at me that has been refuted publicly," Cruz said. "If they want to be credible journalists, the public editor needs to investigate their methodology and see if they are discriminating against authors they have different political views from them."

Murphy said the Times made no changes to its selection process, Politico reports, and its seventh-place spot most likely resulted from strong sales since Cruz slammed the paper.

"This week's NYT best seller list was arrived at using the same process as last week's — and the week before that," Murphy told Politico. "That process involves a careful analysis of data, and is not influenced in any way by the content of a book, or by pressure from publishers or book sellers."

The Cruz campaign did not immediately respond to a Newsmax query seeking comment.
