Sen. Ted Cruz Wednesday attacked Iran after Congress learned of reports that Tehran conducted ballistic missile tests in violation of the recently-approved nuclear agreement.

Critics said that Iran could use the tests to perfect its nuclear weapons technology, The Washington Free Beacon reports.

"Nobody should be surprised that Iran is already breaking the agreement," said the Texas senator, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination. "They never intended to follow the agreement.

"Iran knew that," he told the Free Beacon. The Obama administration knew that. Israel knew that. Everyone knew it.

"This is about a domestic objective for the Obama administration," Cruz said.

Iran reportedly conducted a second test this week of a ballistic missile since the nuclear deal was announced. It is barred by the United Nations Security Council — and Tehran has argued that it has not violated any resolutions, according to the Free Beacon.

The test also comes as Iran expands its military presence in Syria and other countries.

Cruz said that Tehran "will continue breaking the deal, using the millions of dollars the Obama administration is trying to send them to fund radical Islamic terrorists across the globe who will murder innocent Americans, innocent Europeans, and innocent Israelis — and to accelerate their nuclear weapons-development program."

He also slammed the White House for refusing to better police Tehran on adhering to the agreement and preventing such missile tests.

"Those are questions that the Obama administration is unwilling to ask," Cruz said. "Because this deal was never about preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

"On the face of it, the only consequence of this deal will be that Iran will acquire nuclear weapons."
