President Barack Obama does not understand the "concerted effort" to destroy Christians in Iraq, and Syria, former White House Chief of Staff John Sununu said Sunday.

"It’s a tragedy what’s happened. And I cannot believe that this … president does not understand that there is a concerted effort to destroy the Christian community in Iraq, the Christian community in Syria in particular, and they'’re being slaughtered," Sununu said on "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York.

"These are not trivial numbers. These are in the tens of thousands being killed," Sununu told host John Catsimatidis.

Sununu also commented on the 1992 presidential election when President George Bush lost to Bill Clinton in a race that may have been decided by third-party candidate H. Ross Perot. Many believe Perot syphoned a consequential number of votes away from Bush.

Sununu called Perot's campaign a "vendetta" because President Ronald Reagan had sent then Vice President Bush to Perot to tell him to stop his efforts to find American servicemen who were missing in action in Vietnam.

"From that day on Ross Perot hated George Bush," he said. "People talked to Perot; he just didn't want to listen to anything."
